A Russian Revival silver-gilt cloisonné enamel tazza of circular shape with a shaped rim, two scrolling openwork handles, resting on a spreading foot, elaborately enamelled with varicoloured shaded scrolling foliate motifs and exotic birds on a cream and blue ground, within twisted ropework borders, engraved underneath the body with signatures, marked on the rim, foot and under body. Orest Fyodorovich Kurlyukov (1845-1916) was a Russian silversmith active between 1884 and 1916; in 1895 Kurlyukov won a Medal of Honour awarded by the Ministry of Finance. Like Nemirov-Kolodkin and others, Kurlyukov’s firm produced objects for export to be retailed by Tiffany’s in New York. Examples of his oeuvre are in the State Historical Museum in Moscow.
