An oblong silver-gilt basket-weave and champlevé enamel cigarette case with rounded corners, the cover is chased with a trompe l’oeil band partially enamelled in blue, inscribed in Russian: ‘Papirosi’ and decorated with a double-headed eagle; the interior is engraved with crowned monogram ‘BT’ in Cyrillic.

 

Andrei Stepanovich Bragin – a Russian silversmith, active from 1852. In 1888 he became an owner of a workshop at Spassky lane no. 4 in St.Petersburg employing 25 craftsmen in 1897. Examples of his work are in the collection of the State Historical Museum in Moscow.
