The image of Christ sitting on a magnificent carved, golden throne, clad in solemn priestly garments, holding an open Book of Gospels is one of the main iconographic types of the Saviour. Christ is portrayed as all-powerful judge of humanity, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords, and the Divine Logos (Greek: Λόγος, ”Word”, “Discourse”, or “Reason”) the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity. The lengthy inscription on the pages of the Gospel is dedicated to the mystery of the Trinity: “All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him” (Matthew 11:27)
