Silver-gilt cup and cover of Neo-Renaissance design. The cup of baluster shape stands on domed foot, the domed cover is surmounted by a statuette of a lady emblematic of the city of Reval, wearing armour leaning on a shield with a cross and an anchor. The body of the cup is chased with scrolling foliage and four cartouches inscribed in German: ‘To their Alderman Karl Ferdinand Gahlinbeck / at the occasion of his silver wedding anniversary May 18, 1863 / presented in grateful attitude / from the great Guild of Brewers in Reval‘.
Alexander Kordes (1824-1868) – Russian 19th century silversmith and jeweller, owner of a workshop and store. Since 1839 Kordes executed orders for the Imperial Cabinet, in 1840 he was appointed an official purveyor to the Imperial Russian Court.
