Massive circular parcel-gilt Imperial presentation platter. The centre is applied with the crowned Cyrillic monogram of Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna of Russia, the inner border is chased with scrolling acanthus leaves, concentric outer borders are chased with strapwork, circles and scrolls.

 

The present object is a typical example of important Imperial commissions received by major jewelry firms. Such majestic platters were presented at the arrival of distinguished guests on the occasion of the traditional bread and salt ceremony. The present item was a gift to Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna of Russia (1854-1920).
