In 1863-1866, Rumyantsev studied art at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. In 1876, he presented his work at the exhibition of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in St.Petersburg, the same year, he became a member of the Moscow Society of Art Lovers.
