Anne-Marie Grammont-Camoin has confirmed the authenticity of this painting
Charles Camoin was a member of the short-lived movement in modern French painting known as Fauvism. Camoin joined the Fauves in 1905, exhibiting with them in the Salon d’Automne. Working alongside with Henri Matisse, André Derain, Raoul Dufy, Henri Manguin, Maurice Vlaminck, Camoin shared their passion for the picturesque nature of Provence and Côte d’Azur. Like most of these painters, he spent lengthy periods on the Mediterranean coast, in the small town of Cassis, where he produced some of his most accomplished works today held in the Musée d’Art Moderne and the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
