A figurine of an orangutan realistically carved from a single piece of striated brown agate in a seated position, set with rose-cut diamond eyes; contained in its original silk and velvet-lined wooden case stamped ‘Fabergé, St. Petersburg, Moscow, London’ beneath the Imperial Warrant. A similar model, also in agate, belongs to the British Royal Collection (RCIN 40377). Another example of a carved figure of an ape was sold at Christie’s London 4 June 2018, lot 220 for £ 106,250.
