The icon is painted in the traditional style, with the Mother of God and the Christ Child depicted against a light blue ground with gold highlighting. The Mother of God is depicted bust-length wearing gold embroidered maphorion. She holds her son in her lap and raises her hand towards him. The Christ Child, dressed in a folded himation, raises his right hand in benediction; in his left hand, he holds a small scroll. On the outer border, the central figures are flanked by two family saints, the Angel Guardian and St Martyr Claudia.
The icon is encased in a repoussé silver-gilt oklad, its border chased with a floral motif and mounted with a descriptive champlevé enamel plaque. The halo and corner mountings are adorned with cloisonné enamel, while vestments are decorated with lace silver filigree and beading.
