Il Maestro della Fertilità dell’Uovo

Il Maestro della Fertilità dell’Uovo

The paintings of the ‘Master of the Fertility of the Egg’—whose name derives from a work in the Milwaukee Art Museum which depicts dwarfs, geese and lobsters hatching out of eggs—were produced in Brescia, Italy, during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. Often associated with Faustino Bocchi, who also lived and worked in Brescia, the Master artist possesses a biting, satirical edge that distinguishes his work from the more dreamlike work of his contemporary. The Master is considered responsible for introducing the bizarre and grotesque elements of Flemish art to Brescia.
